Two exciting environmentally themed events at the Wanstead Arts Trail

There are two environmentally themed events at the Wanstead Arts Trail 5th-20th September 2015:  Love up Wanstead and a screening and discussion of Disruption, a climate change film.

We are environment arts trail logoLOVE UP WANSTEAD – is an experiment to see how much community actions can change the map of Wanstead in 16 days.   It is both an interactive art project and a social experiment which explores the theme of this year’s Wanstead art trail: We Are The Environment.

The idea is that it’s local actions and interactions with one another that create our ‘map’ and the quality of our lives and environment. The challenge is to see how much the positive actions can change the map of Wanstead in 16 days.  A giant 6m square map of Wanstead has been painted on the walls of the Art Trail Pop Up Centre at 149 High Street, Wanstead. LOVING UP Wanstead includes all of the following positive actions:

  • Planting something in a public place….. Picking up at least 5 pieces of litter in a public space….. Writing a ‘Love Letter To Wanstead’….. Being nice to a stranger.

There’s more information on the Sophia Hubs website about what inspired local artist Sam Cowan to run this event and on the Arts Trail website from 5th September.

This is a new fast-paced cinematic journey through the wild world of climate change: the science, the politics, the solutions and the stories that define this crises at this pivotal point in human history.

The movie is about an hour long and afterwards there will be a discussion about what we can all do together at this important time. This will be facilitated by Transition Town member Ros Southern.

The space is quite small, so arrive early to get a seat!  Near The George Pub, next to Mario’s Shake Shack.
